Peg's Ghost

Peg Entwistle was beautiful.
She had blonde hair and blue eyes and she felt that she could make a name for herself in Hollywood.
Unfortunately, it was not in the way she had hoped.
She tried for months to get a carreer sustaining job as an actress in Hollywood after moving there from Wales to New York City.
She even got a part in a movie wich featured Billie Burke and Humphrey Bogart.
She was even offered a contract by RKO Pictures, but it wasn't enough.
On Sunday, September 18, 1932, she walked up to the gigantic sign which at that time spelled HOLLYWOODLAND.
She climbed to the top of the H and from there made her final curtain call. Her body was found later by passerby who called up the local Police station and told them of the incident.
A note in her purse read, "I am afraid I am a coward. I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain. P.E."
Her uncle made a positive ID of her body at the morgue.
Had she waited just one more day she would have gotten a letter saying she had been chosen to be the female lead in a play which would have jump started her carreer.
Her ghost has been seen wandering in the hills near the sign and the faint smell of Gardenias has been detected.
It was her favorite flower. The famouls Hollywood Sign is now closed to the Public.
It will always be known as a symbol of fame and fortune and yet, with it an underlying sense of dispair.
